Robbie Bethel (second from left), is the daughter of honoree, Clara Lee Degay.  It was a proud moment to share with her family.

Five historical plaques were installed throughout West End Park honoring extrordinary people in New Iberia and in the West End who accomplished great things.  This was done as a result of the Hopkins Street Economic Development District’s (HSEDD) hard work and dedication.

Those present were city officials, West End families and residents and SMHA’s President, Lorna Bourg.

Lorna was voted in by the HSEDD to be an advisor, especially working on honoring the heroes of the community, the dedication of these historical plaques and working on obtaining a clinic in the West End.

Honorees:

Dr. George Wilfred Diggs, Sr., doctor for 50 years

Edran Louis Auguster, educator and local leader
