The largest solar manufacturing company in the Western Hemisphere is right here in Iberia Parish!  The Parish also has a 50-acre mixed-use commercial park located adjacent to Acadiana Regional Airport. And the Mayor is working on details with major retailers.

New Iberia Mayor Freddie Decourt, Parish President Larry Richard, Senator Fred Mills, Board Chair of Southern Mutual Help Association, Inc. and Lorna Bourg, President of Southern Mutual Help Association met with important stakeholders to discuss the critical need for housing. Southern Mutual Help Association sponsored the meeting at their office in New Iberia.

Two major investors flew in, NeighborWorks Capital from Maryland and Local Initiatives Support Corporation from New York. Two executives drove in from New Orleans from Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation and Gulf Coast Housing Partnership, both have been excellent developers throughout Louisiana.

Local Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) realtor and specialist Theresa LaCour is an expert on Iberia Parish’s only TND, Teche Ridge. Clementine Matthews, the Chief Administrator of Southern Mutual Financial Services has been closing home loans for families for 25 years.

It is coming folks!  Residents of Iberia should be excited with new things happening.  Major economic growth is good for everyone and will bring much needed opportunities and housing possibilities!

What’s next?!  Mayor Decourt and Parish President Richard will be sponsoring a second meeting in April at the Sliman Theater to meet with key local builders, bankers, investors and developers to make change happen.  New Iberia is already a great place to live, work and play.  Now we can grow more prosperous!

SMHA treated everyone to delicious po-boys from Bon Creole!  The Best!  Gosh, I hope they serve that in April!
