SMHA’s Rural Recovery Assessment Team took their 1st trip to the lower Cameron Parish areas of Grand Chenier and Creole, Louisiana on Tuesday to determine the extent of these coastal towns.  Flooded areas and surge waters still stand and communities are unable to return in most areas for any more than to secure their property – if they have anything left.  Many homes are just gone and utilities may take six months to be restored.

SMHA is working hard to gather resources and get the many needed volunteers to help get these forgotten communities back home.
