SMHA’s work with sugar cane plantation farmworkers across Louisiana is featured in the Whitney Plantation’s “Grass, Scrap, Burn. Life and Labor at Whitney Plantation after Slavery” exhibit.
The exhibit features various records and photos from 1939 to 1975, including photos and documents from SMHA’s archives, and is on display at the Whitney Plantation in Wallace, Louisiana until August, 2019.
SMHA’s “A Survey of Sugar Cane Farm Workers 1973-74” from their Educational Exchange Plantation Program has been included in the Whitney Plantation’s “Grass, Scrap, Burn. Life and Labor at Whitney Plantation after Slavery” exhibit.
